India-spec bookings are now available for the Lexus LM from August 25th.

This is the first MPV that Lexus has ever brought to India; the first-generation model was previously displayed at the Auto Expo. The Toyota Vellfire’s sister model, the second-generation Lexus LM MPV, has received its first set of details from the automaker and is now accepting reservations in India. This is the first time Lexus has brought the LM, or Luxury Mover, to India because the first-generation model was only available in China.

Since the brand’s founding in 1989, Lexus has cherished an innovative spirit, aiming to offer fresh value propositions through cutting-edge design and technology. The brand provides a wide range of products to satisfy customers all over the world in an effort to improve the lifestyles of all of its visitors. In order to satisfy the mobility needs of extremely wealthy customers looking for a chauffeur-driven MPV in Asian markets, the first-generation Lexus LM was introduced in 2020. In the ultra-luxury market, the Lexus LM offered both 4-seat and 7-seat configurations, and it was well received in all markets. The luxury market’s needs and preferences have grown more complex and varied over the intervening years. As a result, the new LM has undergone a complete redesign, reassessing its value and purpose as a “Luxury Mover,” from which the model derives its name.

The main goal of the engineering and design team was to develop a vehicle that offered a dynamic interior environment and a comfortable ride for all occupants. The fundamental ride comfort and functionality comes first. Despite the car’s grand proportions, the driver experiences effortless engagement due to the car’s precise and direct manoeuvrability. Rear-seat passengers will appreciate not only the improved ride comfort but also the absence of bothersome noise and vibrations, which enables them to feel productive and rejuvenated. The vehicle’s lines reflect functionality and dynamic performance, and the exterior design exudes an elegant presence and aerodynamic form consistent with the Lexus design language. The spacious rear suite offers expertly crafted seats and trim along with a variety of features and technology to make the most of customers’ valuable travel time. The front cabin design combines practicality with refinement to allow drivers to focus.

New platform and styling for the Lexus LM

The Toyota GA-K modular platform, which is also used by the Toyota Vellfire and a number of other models in the Toyota-Lexus lineup, serves as the foundation for the second-generation Lexus LM. It features the most recent version of Lexus’ oversized grille up front, sleek LED headlamps, and fashionable vertical fog lamp housings finished in satin silver. There is a sizable glasshouse that has a subtle kink at the B-pillar and small creases running the length of it that help hide the slab-sided appearance. In contrast to the front, the back has a more understated appearance, with the only standout feature being a boomerang-shaped LED light bar.5,130mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,945mm in height make up the LM. It rides on a set of 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels and has sliding doors on both sides.

The new Lexus LM MPV is more opulent than the Vellfire.

In India, Lexus will offer the LM with either 4 or 7 seats. The new LM’s 4-seat configuration includes airline-style recliner seats, a 48-inch TV, a 23-speaker surround-sound audio system, and pillow-style headrests. It also gets a partition separating the driver and passenger areas.A fridge, rear gloveboxes, umbrella holders, heated armrests and ottomans, multiple USB ports, wireless phone chargers, reading lights, and vanity mirrors are also provided for passengers. Additionally, Lexus provides a glass partition with a dimmable panel that can be raised or lowered for privacy. While an overhead console controls the doors, storage compartments, and cabin temperature, the new LM also gets a new voice control system, which Lexus claims is the first of its kind in the world to cater specifically to rear passengers. On either side of the overhead console, there is a two-part sunroof.

Additionally, rear passengers receive a separate control panel modelled after a smartphone that allows them to modify the interior lighting, window coverings, climate, and seat functions. With the second-generation LM, which features a specially designed headliner, Lexus has focused on sound insulation and deadening. Additionally, the MPV has active noise control, which mutes sounds heard through a microphone while driving, as well as noise-canceling wheels and tyres. Along with a variety of ADAS features, drivers benefit from a digital rear-view mirror, a panoramic-view monitor, a digital infotainment system, and digital dials.

New Lexus LM MPV powertrain

The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder self-charging hybrid powertrain that powers the LM (350h) internationally has a maximum combined output of 250hp and 239Nm and drives all four wheels. Additionally, a more potent LM500h with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo-hybrid powertrain will eventually be added to the global lineup. Though Lexus hasn’t specified, the LM will likely receive the 350h version of the powertrain, the same as the Vellfire. The only two models in the luxury MPV segment, the upcoming Lexus LM and the Toyota Vellfire, occupy a distinct market niche. For comparison, the LM will likely cost between Rs. 1.20 crore and Rs. 1.30 crore (ex-showroom).
